2027 VA Disability Pay Rates

The 2027 cost-of-living adjustment has not been announced yet (checked October 3, 2026). Here is what VA pays now, when the 2027 number arrives, and how it will change the table.

Status as of October 3, 2026

The 2027 COLA has not been announced yet.

VA's 2027 rates will be the 2026 rates raised by the same percentage the Social Security Administration announces for Social Security. SSA computes it from third-quarter consumer price data; the September 2026 consumer price index is scheduled for release on October 14, 2026.

Whatever the percentage, the new rates take effect December 1, 2026. Until then, VA pays the 2026 rates below. No one can tell you a 2027 rate before the COLA is announced — any 2027 figure you see before then is an estimate.

What VA pays now: the 2026 rates

Official, effective December 1, 2025, from VA's compensation rate tables. Monthly and tax-free. At 10% and 20% the rate is flat — dependents do not change it.

What a 2.8% COLA would do to the 2026 table

This is not the 2027 table. 2.8% is the COLA that produced the 2026 rates, used here only to show how a COLA moves each figure. The 2027 COLA may be higher, lower or zero. Do not budget on these numbers.

How the new table is built

VA's rate page states that VA is required by law to match the percentage of the cost-of-living adjustment made to Social Security benefits. SSA bases that percentage on the CPI-W from the third quarter of one year to the third quarter of the next. The COLA raises the dollars attached to your rating; it never changes the rating itself.

VA does not print a rounding formula, so we checked one against VA's own tables. Raising each veteran-alone rate and each 100% dependent amount by the COLA, rounded to the nearest cent, and then setting each 30%–90% dependent amount to that rating's share of the 100% amount, rounded down to the whole dollar, reproduces every figure in VA's 2024, 2025 and 2026 tables from the year before (SSA's 3.2%, 2.5% and 2.8% COLAs). That check runs in our test suite.

Common questions

What are the 2027 VA disability pay rates?
They have not been set yet. As of October 3, 2026, the Social Security Administration had not announced the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment, and VA's 2027 rates follow that percentage. Until then, the official rates are the 2026 rates, effective December 1, 2025:$3,938.58 a month at 100% and $1,808.45 at 70% for a veteran with no dependents.
When will the 2027 VA COLA be announced?
SSA computes the COLA from third-quarter CPI-W data, which is complete once the September consumer price index is published. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has the September 2026 CPI scheduled for October 14, 2026. This page will show the 2027 table once the COLA is announced.
How is the VA cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) set?
VA matches the cost-of-living adjustment the Social Security Administration makes to Social Security benefits — VA's rate page says it is required by law to do so. SSA bases the COLA on the rise in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) from the third quarter of the prior year to the third quarter of the current year. The COLA raises the dollar amounts; it does not change your rating.
When do the new VA rates take effect?
December 1. Each of VA's published rate tables is effective December 1 of the year before the year it is named for — the 2026 rates took effect December 1, 2025, and the 2027 rates will take effect December 1, 2026. You do not need to apply for the increase.
How does VA round the new rates?
VA does not print a formula on its rate pages. The method this page uses reproduces every figure in VA's published 2024, 2025 and 2026 tables to the cent from the year before: each veteran-alone rate and each 100% dependent amount is the prior amount times the COLA, rounded to the nearest cent; at 30% to 90%, each dependent amount is that rating's share of the 100% amount, rounded down to the whole dollar.
